I’m currently mixing four songs for Irish singer-songwriter Patrick K at Underground Sound Studios. He’s got some great songs up his sleeve, so stay tuned for more!

The new EP by Trenchtown received some great online reviews recently: It just got 4.5 out of 5 stars on Rockstar Weekly and got another great review on Distorted Magazine. Finally, there’s a cool interview on Disarray Magazine. The record was produced by Billy Graziadei and partially recorded & assisted by myself. Check it out!

A drum solo by Andy Gillmann appears on a special issue + compilation CD called “Drumheroes!! (Teil 3 – Die Besten Deutschen Drummer)” by the German Drumheads!! magazine. I recorded and mixed the solo at Studio A of Hansahaus Studios in Bonn. The issue features the today’s best German drummers. A different solo on the CD by Wolf Simon was engineered by my friend Janosch Brenneisen (also a recent IMM graduate). Break out the champagne!

I now work as a staff recording engineer at Billy Graziadei’s Underground Sound Studios in Los Angeles. During the last few weeks I have been recording with Last Day Off, Richter 10, Trenchtown and The Spyderz. I also contributed some percussion tracks for Last Day Off and Trenchtown. The Trenchtown album is going to be mastered by Greg Calbi of Sterling Sound NYC within the next few weeks. I’m currently mixing the Last Day Off Acoustic EP.

I’ve started assisting for Billy Graziadei (Biohazard, Suicide City) at his studio in Los Angeles a few months ago. I have recently been involved in tracking sessions for Trenchtown and Evan Seinfeld’s The Spyderz. AEA ribbon microphones were used for tracking drums and guitars with Trenchtown.

I’m currently very busy preparing a couple of presentations dealing with my thesis topics on ribbon microphones and transformers. First, I’ll be doing a presentation called “Interfacing ribbon microphones in the real world” at the AES LA section ribbon microphone workshop on March 27th in Pasadena, US. Secondly, I’m preparing a paper called “Analysis of the interaction between ribbon motor, transformer, and preamplifier and its application in ribbon microphone design”, which will be presented at the upcoming AES Convention in London this May. Finally, I’m co-authoring a presentation summarizing my Diplom thesis with my thesis counselor Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dieter Leckschat at the upcoming DAGA Convention in Berlin, March 18th.

I have recently moved back to Los Angeles to work as a product engineer for AEA ribbon microphones for the next 12 months. I will be responsible for taking care of new product developments and other ongoing projects related to microphone design and engineering. Besides working for AEA I will continue to persue my career as an independent engineer and producer in music production in the LA area.

I engineered a recording session with German drummer Andy Gillmann and his band at the renowned Haushaus Studios in Bonn, Germany. The six-piece band consisting of drums, upright bass, piano, guitar, tenor sax and trumpet/flugelhorn was recorded in Studio A of the facility utilizing the studio’s fantastic collection of microphones. Supplementary ribbon microphones by AEA were used to craft a natural sound. The purpose of the recording session was to produce jazz playalongs for Gillmann’s upcoming drum teaching book.

On December 22nd, I’ll be engineering a demo recording session for the tramp & hobo band The Grand Industrial Band from Cologne, Germany. This is going to be a live recording at a local club and I’ll be using a large number of AEA ribbon microphones to create a vintage soundscape.

As part of my final visual exam for my engineering studies at the Institute for Music and Media in Duesseldorf, Germany, I produced a EPK (Electronic Press Kit) DVD for the German cover band Sir Williams. The project was finally completed in April 2009 after about 1 1/2 years of work. Watch the trailer to the DVD below to get an impression of the scope of the project. Responsiblities of mine besides producing involved project supervision, video editing, interview audio mixing and dvd authoring. Big thanks to everyone who was involved for making this project possible.
