Recording Yancy Deron at Kronos Studios

I had the great pleasure to record a track with the up and coming LA rap artist Yancy Deron at Kronos Studios in Burbank, CA this week. Yancy will be featured on one of the tracks of the new album by the German band aVid*, expected to be released in 2012.

I’ve just spent the past two weeks recording and producing with the German pop/rock band aVid*. After a thorough pre-production period, we spend two days at the Brainworx Studio in Langenfeld for the drum recording. After that, we moved to the band’s private studio in Bocholt where we recorded bass, guitars, and vocals for the first five awesome songs of aVid’s new album. The band calls its music “Popaddicted rock music” and the new record will stay true to that while at the same time introducing a fresh and new approach and attitude. Reviews for Jazz_Lokal – “savoir vivre” coming in

The album by the German jazz ensemble Jazz_Lokal is starting to receive some great magazine reviews. The CD is featured in the current issues of German “Sticks” and “DrumHeads” drum magazines and was also critiqued in the local “Coolibri” culture and events magazine. Furthermore, it has been praised online at Jazzdrummer World. Besides taking care of the mix and mastering of this record, I also contributed a dub remix of the song “Lost”. The CD has been published on the German label Mons Records and is available for download at Amazon and iTunes.

AEA mics in session: Any of Both – Watch You Sleep (acoustic)

The first project featured in the new Listening Room section on the AEA Big Ribbon mics website is a recording session with the German band Any of Both. An acoustic version of the song “Watch You Sleep” was recorded almost exclusively with AEA ribbon microphones in May 2011 at Maarweg Studio 2 in Cologne, Germany. The session was engineered by German producer/engineer Wolfgang Stach. I mixed the song at Hemispheres Recording in Los Angeles, while Alex Kloss once again did a magnificent mastering job at Time Tools in Hannover. In addition to the mix of the song, an HD video which I produced for AEA, introduces the band and the studio, and documents how the microphones were used in the session.

Jazz_lokal album is now out on Mons Records

The new CD by the German ensemble jazz_lokal that I mixed and mastered is now out on Mons Records and is available on Amazon and iTunes. The songs were mixed at Firewater Studios and mastered at My Sonic Temple, both located in Los Angeles. The record titled “savoir vivre” also features a dub remix that I did for the song “Lost”.

Expanding my workbase to Hemispheres Recording

It’s official now: I have joined forces with the team at James Lugo’s Hemispheres Recording in North Hollywood and will start pursuing my own music production work from there soon. James has just installed a 48-channel SSL 6048 G+/E console, which represents the icing on the cake of this top-notch recording and mixing studio. Excellent room acoustics, fantastic instruments, exquisite preamps and outboard equipment, and a 16-track Studer A800 tape machine make this studio the perfect place to step up the game for the projects to come. Big thanks to James for giving me this great opportunity! I will continue working freelance for Firewater Studios when possible and there is good stuff coming up such as the new Trenchtown record. I have just started working with dance-pop artist Pearl Future and there are some other projects yet to be confirmed.This is going to be a very exciting year!

Patrick K releases new album

The new CD by Irish singer/songwriter Patrick K called “Fade Away” in now available on iTunes, Amazon, and other online distribution platforms. It was produced by Mikal Reid and Patrick himself. I mixed six of the eight tracks (all except #2 and #3) at Firewater Studios in Los Angeles. I also took care of keyboard and percussion tracks on several songs. The mastering was done by Roger Lian at Masterdisk in New York. Check it out!

New Jazztraining book by Andy Gillmann

German drummer Andy Gillman has published a new book called Jazztraining featuring a DVD with practice and playalong tracks. The playalong tracks can be heard with and without recorded drums. I recorded and mixed the seven playalong tracks at Hansahaus Studios in Bonn, Germany. The book is available via the German Leu Verlag.

Trenchtown featured on MLB 2K11 game soundtrack

The songs “Unpaid Holiday” and “Pouring Rain” by the SoCal band Trenchtown made it on the official soundtrack for the new MLB 2K11 game. I was involved as a recording engineer on “Unpaid Holiday”, which was produced and mixed by Billy Graziadei and recorded at Firewater Studios in LA. I also played congas and other percussion on this song. Click here to download the track for free!!

Extending my stay in the U.S.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls! I’m excited to announce that I’m going to extend my work experience in the USA thanks to an O-1 extrodinary ability visa sponsored by Audio Engineering Associates. This will allow me to continue working for AEA as product development engineer while also continuing my work as a recording engineer and mixer at Firewater Studios. I’m very much excited about the projects that lie ahead of me and look forward to returning to Southern California at the end of March.
