bio:

Julian David’s deeply rooted musicianship was kindled at age 9 with lessons in classical piano and drums. He soon made the transition to jazz piano and continues to play in various ensembles and bands. At age 13, he experienced his first recording sessions, and quickly moved to working on both sides of the glass.

After becoming infected with the “audio virus,” he enrolled in an audio and video engineering program at the University of Applied Sciences and the Institute for Music and Media in Duesseldorf, Germany. This five-year curriculum involved both a traditional music education as well as technical engineering classes. Motivated by hands-on experience in the design of ribbon microphones gained during a 6-month internship with Audio Engineering Associates in 2008, his graduate thesis was an in-depth study of ribbon microphone output transformers. He graduated with honors with the German “Diplom” degree (equivalent to a Masters of Science degree) in 2009.

Besides working as a freelance assistant engineer for major German radio and TV networks, location recording companies and studios, Julian also has begun a career as an independent audio engineer and music producer specializing in recording and mixing popular music. He is the recipient of three AES Student Delegate Assembly Recording Competition awards in both stereo and multichannel categories and received two scholarships by the German InWEnt gGmbH in 2008/2009. Julian has been an active member of the AES for more than four years and is former Chairman of the Dusseldorf AES Student Section.

After graduating, Julian has returned to Los Angeles in 2010 to work as product engineer for Audio Engineering Associates. He also works as a recording engineer for Billy Graziadei’s Underground Sound Studios. In his carrer he has worked for artists such as Larry Goldings, Bud Shank, Bill Stewart, Inga Lühning, Sebastian Gahler, Revolverheld, Trenchtown, and many more.
